  1. The MiniApps Pack, version 1.1, is a collection of mini-applications, small in
  2. size (6K each) but big on features and usefulness.
  3.

  6. These mini-applications can be found in the Utilities : MiniApps Pack folder
  7. use the following instructions for istallation and use.
  8.

  11. A MiniApp usually performs a single task, somewhat of a pre-configured macro
  12. wrapped in an application shell. There is no complex user interface or settings
  13. to configure. It knows what to do, how to do it, even when to quit.
  14.  
  15. MiniApps require System 7 and generally reside in the Apple Menu Items folder,
  16. where they can be reached easily. Although some may be better located in the
  17. Startup Items folder.
  18.  
  19. Contrary to systems extensions, which often provide similar functionality,
  20. MiniApps do not have permanent memory requirements and are not subject to
  21. annoying conflicts.

  23. The MiniApps Pack v1.1 is free. Commercial distribution is restricted.

  26. EmptyTrash:
  27. -----------
  28.  
  29. System 7's trash doesn't empty automatically. There are alternatives available
  30. to remedy this shortcoming; some require you to install a system extension, or
  31. drag items to a special application.

  33. Avoid the possible extension conflicts and memory management issues. Make it
  34. easy on yourself... Place "EmptyTrash" in your "Startup Items" folder. The
  35. trash will automatically empty itself each time your Mac is restarted.
  36.  
  37. (NOTE: Holding the shift key down at boot time will prevent startup
  38. applications, such as EmptyTrash, from loading.)
  39.  
  40.  
  41. FinderToFront:
  42. --------------
  43.     
  44. System 7's Startup Items folder allows you to launch applications or open
  45. documents whenever your Mac starts up. Items enclosed in the Startup Items
  46. folder are launched in alphabetical order, the last one becoming the
  47. front most.
  48.  
  49. This is a great feature, but often one would want the Finder to be front most as
  50. soon as all startup items are launched.
  51.  
  52. No sweat! Copy "~FinderToFront" to the Startup Items folder. The Finder will
  53. automatically come to front after all startup items have loaded.

  55. (NOTE: The ~ placed at the beginning of FinderToFront ensures it is always
  56. launched last.)

  59. QuitAllApps:
  60. ------------

  62. "I wish I could quit all opened applications at once!"
  63.  
  64. No problems! Place "QuitAllApps" into your Apple Menu Items folder; quitting
  65. all opened applications will become a one step selection from the Apple Menu.

  67. (NOTE: Applications which do not support high-level events may not quit as
  68. expected.)

  71. QuitFinder:

  74. Want to save yourself 300K or more by quitting the Finder when you don't need
  75. it?

  77. Easy! Copy "QuitFinder" to your Apple Menu Items folder. To "quit" the Finder
  78. simply select "QuitFinder" from the Apple Menu.

  80. (NOTE: Quitting all applications and desk accessories automatically re-launches
  81. the Finder.)

  84. Restart:

  87. Have you ever wanted to Restart your Mac without having to switch back to the
  88. finder?

  90. Put "Restart" into your Apple Menu Items folder and you won't have to!
  91. Just select "Restart" from the Apple Menu.

  94. ShutDown:

  97. In a hurry? Need to shut down your Mac fast?

  99. Place "ShutDown" in your Apple Menu Items folder to make it available from the
  100. Apple Menu.

  103. Sleep:

  106. No need to buy a memory-hungry system extension to put your PowerBook to sleep
  107. or invoke your favorite screen saver.
  108.  
  109. Copy "Sleep" to your Apple Menu Items folder and "Sleep" will become available
  110. to all your favorite applications via the Apple Menu.

  112. (NOTE: Sleep will only work with screen savers which make use of the "Sleep"
  113. menu option located under the "Special" menu in the Finder.)

  116. VolumeUp & VolumeDown:
  117. ----------------------

  119. Ever wanted to raise or lower your Macintosh speaker's volume one notch without
  120. having to go through opening the sound control panel, etc.
  121.  
  122. Simply place "VolumeUp" and "VolumeDown" in your Apple Menu Items folder; one
  123. click is all it'll take to control your speaker's volume.
